Why does PMI audit applications?
PMI Audit’s main purpose is to verify that the applicant meets the PMP prerequisites. This ensures that only qualified candidates sit for certification exams such as PMP, CAPM and PMI-ACP. It is used by PMI to ensure that PMI certifications meet the established quality standards.
PMI conducts an application audit to verify the education and experience of applicants for certification. Audits are done to improve the credibility of certification programs and certification holders. A specified percentage of applicants are randomly selected to audit each certification. What certificates are subject to PMI Audit? All PMI-related certificates are subject to audit. This includes the following certificates:
Project Management Professional (PMP),(r)
Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP)(r)
Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)(r)
Professional in Business Analysis (PMI – PBA)(r).

PMP Application – PMI Audit
Let’s now discuss PMP Application & Audit. PMP certification requires certain prerequisites. The PMI audit process focuses only on verifying these eligibility requirements. Two prerequisites are required: a degree in education and hours worked. These prerequisites require that the applicant has a minimum educational level and a number of project-related hours. The applicant must have a secondary degree and 7,500 hours of experience leading and directing projects. Secondary school degrees include a high school diploma, an associate’s degree, or the global equivalent.

Alternately, the applicant can have a four year degree and 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects. The applicant must also complete 35 hours of project management education or obtain CAPM certification before applying for the PMP exam.
An audit should therefore include an investigation into the validity of information that you have provided in relation to these prerequisites. A minimum of 35 hours of PMP training is recommended.
