As a true-crime buff, I'd never heard of the real-life case this is based on before.... There is surprisingly little [that has been written about the case] beyond Holt's splendid book." --The Reader in the Tower

Like the dirt of Pennsylvania hillsides, like pollen, like the leavings of a butterfly's wings, these poems remain on our hands and in our minds, affecting us long after the book is put down.

“Not necessarily.” Jill spun around on her rolling chair and looked at him. “There
are different levels to the lake, see?” Jill pointed back to one of the charts that
showed elevations. “Lake Delavan has hills and valleys in the bottomland, just
like land formations above the water. The lake wasn't totally drained down to the
mud in every place; it couldn't be. If I'm reading this map correctly, there are
places that probably still had ten feet ofwater while another place may have had

INTRODUCTION - WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES Earlier chapters in this book,
especially the workgroup summaries (Chapters 11 to 18), addressed the
following general questions. (1) What key ecological structures and processes
characterize forested bottomland hardwood ecosystems? (2) Is the zonal concept

This is a bottomland species found along the southern coastal plain from
Mississippi to Texas and Arkansas and recently found in South Carolina. It is very
similar to both the post oak and the sand post oak, differing from the former by
having narrower main lobes and by hairs not obscuring the surface of the first-
year twigs, and from the latter by lacking basally fused hairs (individual hairs are
basally fused in the sand post oak). It is also similar to the overcup oak, but with
fewer lobes.
